One of the things that attracted great interest in the new psychology is the issue of testing the mind and intelligence of children and young people. In past centuries, people knew to some extent that there was a discrepancy in the power of perception and comprehension among people, but they did not know how to determine the ratio of this discrepancy between one person and another, and what method to follow. So that they can test the minds of children and young men, their intelligence, memory and wit, and accurately determine the scales.
Children's brain scale:
“At the beginning of the current century, the first experiment to measure the minds of children was subjected to the test thanks to the efforts of the scientist Benes, and until that day the world did not witness what this scientist had reached in this field, of course, at that time it was clear that there are children who are more intelligent than others, but no one tried to discover the relationship of intelligence or stupidity with the age of the child ».
“At that time, what was required was the invention of laboratory methods that would help identify stupid children and separate them from normal children. The scientist «Benes» believed that it is possible to manufacture or devise a measure to test the strength of intelligence in children.
At first, Benes and his colleague, Simon, developed an examination schedule to determine the degree of comprehension and memory of people and their psychological abilities, and they conducted extensive investigations to find out the level of response of children of all ages to the examination schedule.
Test ranks:
After organizing the tests for specific ages, Bines and Simon discovered a new concept, which is the mental age. A five-year-old child would succeed in a test that was set for his age, but he would fail in a test that was set for a 6-year-old, so the mental age of this child is five years, and such a child is considered normal.
Normal and mental age:
“But if the average child is ten years old and cannot pass the test designated for the age of 5, then he is from the category of stupid children. And if the average child's age is three years and he succeeds in the test for the age of 5 years, this means that he is super intelligent. So, determining the mental age is sufficient to highlight the sharpness of children's intelligence or their stupidity, and this is what can be determined by taking the mental age and the normal age into account together ».
Since the discovery of a measure of human intellect and intelligence using scientific and practical methods, and since developed countries began using these methods, bitter and surprising facts have emerged that the peoples of the world were ignorant of.
The tests that school students, factory workers, and camp soldiers underwent proved that a large number of people in societies suffer from weak-mindedness and stupidity, that is, they are abnormal and retarded in terms of mental development.
(Dr. Carl says: There are many (in France and America) whose mental age does not exceed 10 years. A report issued by the National Committee for Mental Health stated that 400,000 children cannot continue their studies because of their stupidity.
And the tests conducted by “Herx” in 1917 on the soldiers and officers of the US Army proved that the mental age of 46% of them did not exceed the age of 13 years.
"It is certain that if such tests were subjected to by the French people, especially in some cities of the states of 'Brutany' and 'Normandy', the result would be similar, but there are no statistics in this field in France."
“For this reason, we should not be under the illusion of the results of the academic exams that occupy a large part of our youth. We know that obtaining certificates and achieving success even in postgraduate studies is not evidence of comprehension and intelligence. There are those who are stupid but succeed in such exams.”
