Meaning in interactional contexts

We started with a brief consideration of broader contextual influences on the ways in which pragmatic meanings arise in interaction. We have alluded to two key themes in relation to the way in which pragmatic meanings arise in context in our discussion thus far. First, speakers (and indeed recipients in some cases) can be held accountable or responsible for such meanings. Second, pragmatic meanings can be analyzed as arising through various meaning-actions, such as saying and implying. We expand upon both of these claims in order to deepen our understanding of how pragmatic meanings arise in context.
