Neck Osteology
Neck stability is provided by the cervical vertebrae (C1-C7). cervical vertebrae 1-7 are separated by fibrocartilaginous intervertebral discs (absent between C1 and C2) and united through a series of joints, ligaments, and capsules. The hyoid bone is located anteriorly in the neck, suspended between muscle and connective tissue at the C3 vertebral level. The sternum and clavicles serve as attachment sites for neck musculature and fascia (Fig.1 ).
