The Telegraphic Alphabet Telegraphic messages are sent by what is known as the Morse alphabet. This consists of a series of dots and dashes with intervals between the letters and longer intervals between the words.
In the first instruments there was used a special receiver that traced the dots and dashes upon a strip of paper. The universal custom now is to read by sound.
