The medical profession is humanitarian at core
11:5:53 2024-01-31 1294

Professions existed to meet the multiple needs of man, and they varied according to the multiplicity of those needs, so the medical profession served humanity the most among all the professions.

Since the doctor's mission is humanitarian, he must have a strong moral resolve to perform his responsibilities to the fullest extent.

The introduction to that package includes the following:

- Preserving patients’ secrets: One of the most important qualities that a doctor must possess is preserving their secrets and not revealing them. If his patients are cured, they are not socially punished by the curse of the previous illness.

- To have a good nature: to enhance the patient’s morale and create a good channel of communication with his patients.

- To be keen to constantly develop himself: so that he can serve people in the best and most complete manner, and this can only come through constantly developing his medical abilities and skills.

- To direct his desire towards curing the patient, not obtaining a reward.

- Respecting professional specialization: The Prophet (may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family) says: “If the matter is entrusted to people other than those who deserve it, then wait for the Hour.”

- The necessity of avoiding any prohibited practice: This is represented in cases including: participation in the trade in human organs or cases of abortion.

- To be trustworthy: because he is entrusted with people’s lives and their money spent for treatment and restoration of wellness.

- Soundness of thought and behavior: His thought is characterized by giving without selfishness, and he wears the garment of chastity, mercy, and kindness, avoiding practices that make his reputation in society repulsive.

- He must be familiar with religious and Islamic spiritual culture in particular, and be aware of what he is legally obligated to do in his profession, such as touching and what it is not permissible to look at.

- To give precedence to the most humane situations over others, and to be compassionate to the poor.

- Complete cleanliness of body and clothing: because all of this reflects positively on the patient and his family and enhances their confidence in him.

Therefore, the doctor is the one who sets priorities according to the human perspective, which can only be present strongly, because it is the foundation on which medical practice is built.
