The majority of people walk on this earth proudly not knowing what lies ahead. They choose to ignore the obvious and follow their worldly obsessed soul. It is within human nature to search for the truth and seek knowledge about their own life, like where did I come from? Why am I here? And where am I heading? These are all questions no can deny asking themselves.

Here any individual has two choices, either to ignore these very important questions that will eventually help him understand his life in a more sophisticated manner or choose to ignore them and lead a life full of ignorance.

Having knowledge about one’s purpose in this life creates a sense of calmness within the human mind. In today’s society we see multi-millionaires not able to enjoy a simple meal and lead a very complicated life full of miseries and depression. On the other hand we see someone leading a not so luxurious lifestyle but seems to be able to live in happiness and content.

When a human being is knowledgeable and has some information about Allah and his purpose on this earth they will definitely live a life with a calm mind. In the Holy Quran the Almighty Allah says: “And I have not created the jinn and the man except that they should worship Me (Obey Me).”

The Prophet (PBUH) has said “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”

This obligation is not limited to a certain sex or class, but rather it is as much as an obligation upon women as it is for men, the young and the old, and the poor and the rich.  Allah has raised the ranks and status of those who have knowledge, and has praised them in many places in the Quran.  Allah says: “Allah rises of those who believe and those who have been given knowledge many levels.”

There is a great difference between a Muslim who has knowledge and one who does not.  The Prophet described this in his saying:

“The excellence of a scholar over another (ordinary) worshipper is like the excellence of the full moon over the rest of the heavenly bodies.”

Imam Ali (AS) says: “Knowledge creates fear of God.” When an individual has knowledge regarding their religion they will surely live a more meaningful life.

Islam calls us to seek knowledge. The Messenger (PBUH) made seeking knowledge an obligation upon every Muslim. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “When Allah wishes good for a person, He makes him understand the religion.”

With this we conclude that learning about our religion is extremely important and life in ignorance is troublesome and tiring.
