Cotrimoxazole (Trimethoprim + Sulphamethoxazole)

Cotrimoxazole is active against o broad spectrum of Gram-negative and Gram-posi­tive bacteria, as well as Nocardia and Toxoplasma. This combination is used to treat Gram-negative urinary tract infections, and is the agent of choice for Nocardia infec­tions. Cotrimoxazole is also used to treat and prevent Pneumocystis carinii and toxo­plasma infection. Both the sulphonamides and trimethoprim may cause skin rashes. including Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
