The destructive tendency in children has many harms, some of which are inflicted on others, and some of which affect family members. The deviant behavior of such children is so severe that their families feel uncomfortable with it at home on the one hand, and face great embarrassment in taking them to public gatherings on the other hand; because of their harmful and destructive tendency towards others. Here are five ways to treat destructive tendencies in children:
First: Guidance: It is very important to know whether the child knows that destructive action is wrong and unacceptable or not? And whether we have confronted him and talked to him about this matter or not?
We should not be satisfied with giving general directions regarding what should and should not be done in terms of actions and behaviors, and expecting the child to understand and realize everything, so the child must be warned and guided regarding each thing separately.
Second: Embracing the child and gaining his trust: The child must be embraced and accepted for all his negatives, whether male or female, beautiful or ugly, because rejecting and scolding him will cause him psychological problems and complexes, and this in itself is a reason and factor in the tendency towards destruction.
Third: Being busy with useful work: The child can be allowed to be busy with useful work or with something that does not harm him, for example, a nail and a hammer, or a saw and a piece of wood can be placed at his disposal to play and do whatever he wants with them.
In addition to the fact that this matter contributes in itself to developing his abilities to work and create, it also allows him to release his psychological emotions. Of course, parents and educators should monitor the child's behavior and provide him with the necessary guidance.
Fourth: Threatening and warning: It is useful to use the method of threatening and warning with the child sometimes in addition to preaching, guidance and direction, so that he realizes the consequences of his bad actions and understands that he will be subject to punishment if he repeats them.
The purpose of declaring punishment and threats is to frighten the child of the consequences and thus dissuade him from doing it.
Fifth: Beating: In cases where the vandalism is the result of rioting and misbehavior, and sermons, advice and guidance do not affect the child's return from his behavior, it is possible to resort to beating him with the aim of bringing him back to his senses.
However, this beating must be in a manner that achieves the goal without causing more harm to the child than is necessary.
