When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), died, a solar eclipse occurred. Some people who were ignorant of the laws of nature and the principles governing the natural world imagined that the sun had been eclipsed because of Ibrahim’s death.

There is no doubt that such a false belief, although merely an imaginary notion and a foolish illusion, could have benefited the Prophet and strengthened his position in a society that had long believed in and cherished superstitions.

Had the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) been an ordinary, materialistic leader, it would have been possible for him to confirm the validity of this belief in order to gain greater prestige and power.

However, contrary to such expectations, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) ascended the pulpit, informed the people of the truth, and said:

“O people! The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They move by His command and are obedient to Him. They do not become eclipsed because of the death or life of anyone.”

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) acted in complete contrast to opportunists and self-serving individuals who not only interpret facts and manipulate them to serve their own interests and purposes, but also continually attempt to exploit people’s ignorance and their inclination toward superstition for their own benefit.

Unlike such people, the Messenger of Islam did not conceal the truth, nor did he take advantage of people’s ignorance and heedlessness for his own benefit.

Had the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) endorsed such a false idea and imaginary belief on that day, he could not have presented himself as an eternal leader of humanity, a messenger chosen by the Creator of nature, and the true founder of the laws governing the material world. This is especially evident in the present age, in which the mysteries of nature have been uncovered, the laws governing the material world have become clearer, and the causes of solar and lunar eclipses and other natural phenomena have been understood.

The Prophet’s noble message was not limited to the Arab people, nor was it restricted by the boundaries of time or place. If he was the Prophet of ancient nations and generations, then he is also the Prophet of the Space Age and the leader of an era devoted to discovering the secrets and mysteries of nature.

The sayings and words of this great Prophet possess such strength, soundness, authenticity, and realism that they have not been undermined by any objection, even in light of recent scientific developments that have completely overturned many of humanity’s earlier understandings.
