Although shy adults blame their parents or brothers and sisters for “creating” their shyness, I do not believe that parents should bear the burden of their child’s shyness. Despite everything, parenting is the most difficult task on earth, and I know that you are doing your best to perform it to the fullest extent, but I want you to understand that you have the strength and all the necessary resources to build an intimate, loving relationship with your child that is free of feelings of guilt, blame, and lack of judgment. If you use your parental power and authority wisely, you will be able to help your child become more socially confident and improve his condition in general.
In order to help yourself understand your parental authority, you must think of your family as a “living social laboratory” filled with elements that include your educational skills, your hopes and fears for your children, the social skills your child currently acquires and may possess in the future, and your relationship with your child. All of these elements come together to create an ever-evolving family unit with ever-evolving family members.
In the living laboratory of your home, you and your children can experiment with behavioral patterns and take some risks, which they would not, of course, take outside the safe environment of the home. Then, when you are ready, transfer what you have learned to the outside world and help your child become successful despite his shyness. You have complete freedom to integrate with people, evaluate things, and adjust them according to the needs of your shy child, which are unique to him and others.
