Six ways to eat garlic for people who suffer from diabetes and high cholesterol

Whether or not a person likes the distinctive smell of garlic, garlic is one of the delicious and natural ways to boost health. The benefits of garlic range from controlling cholesterol levels to improving the health of people with diabetes. According to Dr. Anu Prasad, a nutrition expert, incorporating garlic into the regular diet can help in boosting heart health and lowering triglyceride levels. Garlic has been used effectively for centuries in traditional remedies.

According to what was published by "Health Shots", making garlic a daily part of the diet without confusing the taste can be overcome through the following delicious and easy ways:

1. Raw garlic on an empty stomach

Eating raw garlic with a glass of water on an empty stomach can help lower cholesterol levels and promote heart health. "Allicin, a compound found in raw garlic, is known for its cholesterol-lowering properties and improving blood health," explains Dr. Prasad. “The concentration of allicin is diluted when garlic is cooked, so the best way to eat garlic is to eat it raw, on an empty stomach,” says Dr. Prasad. And if a person is concerned about the smell of garlic, they can take it with lemon or apple cider vinegar.

2. Garlic tea

Garlic tea is an excellent choice for those who prefer a milder flavor while still enjoying the benefits of garlic. To make garlic tea, crush a clove of garlic and add it to a cup of water. Boil the tea for a few minutes and then add 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon to it. The mixture is then left to infuse for a few minutes before turning off the stove. Finally, one teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of lemon juice can be added.

3. Garlic and honey

Combining garlic with honey is another effective way to incorporate garlic into your daily routine. Cut a clove of garlic into three or four pieces and put it on a spoon. Then add a few drops of honey to the spoon and leave for a few minutes. The garlic is then carefully chewed before being swallowed. If the taste is too strong, a few sips of warm water can be taken alongside it, or a mixture can be prepared by combining 10 chopped garlic cloves with 5 tablespoons of honey. “Eating a spoonful of this mixture on an empty stomach daily helps relieve the symptoms of acid reflux,” says Dr. Prasad.

4. Roasted garlic

Roasting garlic brings out a mild, slightly sweet flavor while still maintaining its health benefits. To roast garlic, cut off the top of the garlic bulb, exposing the garlic cloves. Then the onion is drizzled with olive oil and wrapped in aluminum foil. Roast the garlic in the oven at 200°C for 30-35 minutes, or until the cloves are soft and golden. Once cooled, roasted garlic cloves are peeled and spread on bread or mixed into sauces.

5. Chopped garlic

Garlic can be added to regular meals by mixing it well with a variety of dishes, including vegetables, curries, soups and stir-fries. Garlic cloves are minced or ground and fried in a little oil before adding other ingredients to infuse daily meals with a distinctly aromatic flavor and exquisite taste. But it must be remembered that cooking garlic can reduce the effectiveness of allicin, so if a person prefers to increase its health benefits, minced raw garlic can be added to cooked meals just before serving.

6. Garlic oil

Garlic oil is another convenient way to enjoy the benefits of garlic. Garlic-infused oil can be used in cooking, as a salad dressing, or as a tasty drizzle on vegetables or on toast. To make garlic oil, peel and crush several cloves of garlic and then mix them with 1 cup of high-quality cooking oil, such as olive oil or avocado oil, in a saucepan. Simmer the mixture over low heat for 10 minutes, making sure that the garlic does not burn. After leaving it to cool down a bit, the oil can be filtered to remove the pieces of garlic, and transferred into a clean, airtight bottle. Garlic oil can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
