Girls are no better than boys, and boys are no better than girls. But boys and girls are certainly different, especially within groups. A boy while alone would be happy to turn the pages of a book, put together a puzzle, or focus on a specific task. But when boys come together, competition and activity usually emerge. Dr. Joseph Tobin, professor of early childhood education at Arizona State University, points out that “the culture of schools is more feminine than masculine.” Especially with regard to young boys, the presence of men is almost non-existent in the early educational stages, and many children's teachers find that the boys' interest in violence, large objects, and bodily functions is boring or stupid.
Boys' high activity rate and their competitive, hands-on approach to learning can create challenges for even the most understanding teacher, especially in today's large classes. While many boys are excellent students during their school years, most of them learn to read later than girls. Many experts believe that boys are often referred to as problem learners because of differences in development rather than because of actual academic problems.
Based on the National Center for Education Statistics in America. Boys are more likely than girls to fail and leave school by 30%; Girls outperform boys in grades and homework from primary to university grades. The number of women exceeds the number of men in university studies, with a percentage of 56% in undergraduate studies and 55% in postgraduate studies.
Schools seem to value girls' skills highly. And the boy, who learns that he is a failure and that he is a problem, is less likely to like and enjoy school. Failing at school leads to the feeling that the boy fears more than any other feeling, i.e. shame. Shame, in turn, leads to a lack of self-respect and alienation from the school community. And as the date for entering the secondary grades approaches, boys become more likely to face academic problems and more inclined to skip school and leave it altogether.
