Raising children by friendship and exhortation
If the parents seek to impose their educational and directive approach through the language of friendship and exhortation, or by following the method of consultations and exchanging opinions with their children, then it is certain that they will succeed in infiltrating the depths of the children, and passing their educational approach properly and smoothly.
Islam has given this sensitive psychological issue great attention in its educational programs for the young generation. There are many Quranic verses and significant Islamic narratives that confirm the importance of raising boys and young men on the basis of their appreciation and respect for their personality.
Allah Almighty said: {And when Luqman said to his son while he was admonishing him, “My son…” [Luqman: 13].
Luqman was a godly and wise man, a believer. A Qur’anic chapter was revealed in his name, which included part of his upbringing and wise admonitions to his son.
Sermon and advice:
Through our reading of the Holy Qur’an, specifically Surat Luqman, we sense divine providence in the hadith of Luqman and his admonition to his son, and this providence emerges through his word “while admonishing him.”
If this word was not mentioned in the aforementioned verse, and the verse was revealed as follows, and when Luqman said to his son, “O my son,” it would have been complete and understandable. », And he wanted to let us know that Luqman’s speech to his son did not carry the wording of command and prohibition, nor insult and contempt, nor flattery and fawning, but rather he came with the tongue of sermon and advice out of respect for his son’s personality and self-esteem. Let the fathers and mothers learn from this great Qur’anic lesson how to apply their educational approach to their children in a way that leaves a deep impact on them, preserves their personality and guarantees their happiness in life.
